FUNDING & REFERRALS

Mental Health Care Plans

With a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), you are eligible for up to 10 Medicare-rebated psychology sessions per calendar year.

Your referral must be dated on or before the date of your session for rebates to apply.

A Mental Health Care Plan provides access to a set number of sessions within a calendar year. You will first receive 4 or 6 sessions, and after a review with your GP, you may be approved for additional sessions, up to the annual maximum of 10.

Once all 10 Medicare-rebated sessions have been used for that calendar year, you cannot receive a new MHCP or additional rebated sessions until the same month your original plan was created in the following year.

If you require appointments before your new plan becomes available, you can either pay privately (without a rebate) or wait until you are eligible to obtain a new MHCP.

As provisional psychologists are unable to offer a Medicare rebate for their sessions, a reduced fee for therapy appointments is offered to minimise the gap where a Medicare rebate may apply.

The fee difference between a Clinical Psychologist and a Psychologist does not reflect a difference in service quality. This fee structure is designed to reduce the out-of-pocket costs for individuals using Medicare, which offers different rebates for Psychologists and Clinical Psychologists.

Please note that you cannot claim a rebate for a ‘Late Cancellation/Missed Session’ fee.

NDIS

We accept clients who are both Plan Managed and Self-Managed through the NDIS.

Please note Plan Managed clients will be charged an out-of-pocket GAP fee and you will need to make sure that you have psychology included in your NDIS plan.

NDIS funding can sometimes be used for parent support sessions, provided these sessions directly help the child work towards their NDIS-approved goals. It is the responsibility of the NDIS participant and their carers to check what is eligible for claiming under their individual plan.

PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE

Private health funds will often provide a rebate for assessment services.  Each fund uses a different item code, and you will need to contact your health fund to ensure that psychology is covered, and to ask which codes your health funds use.

Please email allbrainspsychology@outlook.com with your private health details. We are unable to process private health rebates on your behalf, and you will need to lodge these yourself.

ASSESSMENTS

Medicare rebates are available for autism assessments for children and adults up to the age of 25 years old under the Medicare item code 135

We have created a breakdown to make the process simple and easy for you to follow.
